Cooking with Mrs Claus

Mrs Claus returns again to Junior Chef with her Elf helpers to help the children make edible Christmas gifts for family and friends, Saturday 22nd December from 11am until 1pm or 2pm until 4pm !!!

Our Halloween Camp ran for 4 days and was a great success, the kids (including 50% boys) cooked delicious foods and one of the favoured recipes was “Penne Arriabaita” you can decide how spicy you want it!

I will be updating this blog regularly and giving a new recipes !!!

Really looking forward to running Mrs. Claus again this year on the 22nd and 23rd December, its a great idea to give; Moms & Dads, Godparents, Grandparents and anyone special to you a great Christmas Gift.

Penne All’Arrabiata

You will need
250g fresh or dried pasta

Sauce Arrabiata
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 clove garlic
4 streaky rashers – optional
1 tin chopped tomatoes
Salt and pepper
8 basil leaves
½ teaspoon crushed chillies or 1 small fresh chilli
1 tablespoon Pecorino or Parmesan cheese

1. Boil water in kettle for pasta. Cook pasta in boiling salted water until ‘al dente’ or just cooked, according to directions on packet.
2. Sauce: Smash garlic, peel and chop finely. Cut rasher into thin strips. Tear the basil leaves. Wash, split, deseed and finely shred the fresh chilli if using.
3. Heat oil. Fry the rasher gently until beginning to brown but not crisp. Add garlic, sauté for ½ minute.
4. Add tomatoes, chillies, salt and pepper, cook for 15-20minutes, remove from heat, set aside. The sauce can be cooked ahead of time and stored in fridge.
5. Grate cheese. Drain pasta, return to saucepan, toss with the sauce and basil leaves. Stir in the grated cheese.
6. Serve with crusty bread and green vegetables.
